Sclerotherapy: A Simple Solution to Reduce the Appearance of Veins Before Summer

The days are slowly getting longer, which means the leg-revealing summer months aren’t far behind. If your legs are riddled with unsightly spider or varicose veins, you may be less than thrilled to slip into the shorts, skirts, and bathing suits that put your legs on full display. Thankfully, we have a quick and easy solution that can restore your smooth, blemish-free skin — sclerotherapy.

At VeinMedic, with four offices in New York City, board-certified vascular surgeon Dr. Michael Kassouf and our team of vein specialists offer the most advanced tools for fighting leg veins. And one of our more tried-and-true techniques is sclerotherapy.

Read on to discover how this simple solution can reduce the appearance of your legs in time for summer.

What sclerotherapy does

Sclerotherapy is a technique in which we inject your veins with a solution called a sclerosant, which causes the small veins to collapse. Once your veins collapse, your blood reroutes to healthier blood vessels further below the surface, and the treated veins are absorbed into your tissue.

Sclerotherapy is fast

One of the reasons our patients prefer sclerotherapy is that the treatment is incredibly quick. When you come in, we review your problematic veins and then get to work, injecting the sclerosant in each vein. In most cases, this process takes us about a half-hour to complete.

There’s no downtime

While sclerotherapy treatment is fast, there’s also no downtime afterward, which means you can get right back to your day. You may experience some residual soreness at the sites of the injections, but this typically resolves quickly.

While we encourage you to get back to your daily routine after your sclerotherapy, you should steer clear of strenuous exercise for a few days and avoid prolonged periods of sitting or standing.

Little to no discomfort

As we mentioned, you may feel some slight soreness after we inject your veins, but many of our patients report no discomfort. Our providers are experts when it comes to vasculature, so we know how to quickly administer the injections in the least invasive manner.

Big solution for small problems

Our sclerotherapy is designed to tackle spider veins and small varicose veins, and it does this job admirably. In fact, sclerotherapy has been in use for decades, so it has an impressive track record.

Some of our patients need just one treatment, while others benefit from two or three sclerotherapy sessions, depending upon the size and number of the veins to be addressed.

Going bigger

If you have larger veins, we offer Varithena® sclerotherapy foam, which works well on:
